Break The Patterns
“Genius is about knowing when to stop.”
-Albert Einstein
I entered my classroom for the umpteenth time, paused at a familiar row where I used to sit mostly but went ahead and sat with some classmates I hadn’t interacted in a long time.
While this may seem like a real banality of our routines, it has a strong message.
We as human beings have a habit of being “attached”. Our attachment is not only restricted to people and emotions but also to a fixed routine of life. Most of us have a habit of sticking to the same set of paths, people and lifestyles everyday. While some part of it is inevitable, most of it is a fault on our side. Shahrukh Khan in the role of a psychologist in the movie Dear Zindagi says a dialogue, “Zindagi mein jab koi pattern banta yaa koi aadat banti dikhaai de naa, to uske baare mein acchi tarah se soch lena chahie. Genius is about knowing when to stop.” (When you observe a habit or pattern being formed in your life, you should cogitate about it well)
A lot of things go wrong in life when we have fixed our thoughts or people or lifestyles and have gotten so used to them that a slight change in any particular aspect affects a lot of things adversely. We also limit our horizons to a limited set of ideas while we need to explore the innumerable aspects of the world. Observe all the people in the world who according to you are doing well in life. While each one of them might have their own success mantras, one trait is common in most of them. They get out of their comfort zones and explore numerous spectrums of life. They have never narrowed their horizons to a limited set of ideas in their lives.
So get up tomorrow and start breaking most of the patterns of life. Have your lunch at a different place, interact with lesser known co-workers, go for a coffee with an old friend, take a different path for a walk, go ahead on a solo trip.
What if breaking the shackles of your monotonous life helps you discover a new you? How would your life feel then?
